February 7
The days seem to blend together so that if I haven't
committed to memory what we did, I need to dig in my memory banks. As usual I
got up early and did my OXXO run plus I did a small shopping at Ley's. Then I
sat on our balcony watching Saturday morning evolve for our Mexican neighbors.
At 7:30 a cab pulled up and in a few moments our beloved
Jeanette from Queretaro was at our door. She had taken an overnight bus because
logistically in the time sense she would have arrived here at the same as her
flight would have got in. She traveled/slept on an overnight bus and paid a lot
less in fare!
We did a lot of catching up both in our room. She and
Patti headed off for the market to get some of Patti's favorite artisan bread
which is only available on Saturdays from this one entrepreneur lady!
We spent the afternoon around the pool.
Jeanette
actually got Patti part way into the water where they visited some more.
Near sunset Patti, Jeanette, and I made the 5 block trek
to the Rosita where Pattie's sister Millie has an ocean side room where we
would have “appies” on her balcony and toast the sunset. Patti's sister Sue and
Sue's husband, Phil, were already there.
We enjoyed about 5 varieties of cheese, some artisan
sourdough bread, guacamole, lime flavored peanuts, various kinds of taco chips,
and of course, some wine. When sunset approached we took some obligatory pix.
It gets dark very very shortly after trhe sun sets. No prairie twilights here!
At about 8 p.m. we headed back to the hotel. Patti, Jeanette,
and Sue decided to go out to a restaurant that served very delicious types of
crepes. Millie would join them for the walk. Because it was at the other
extreme end of the Malecon, I had to pass as I did not want to make the painful
walk and I just didn’t feel up to another bone-jarring ride or two on the bus.
Instead I walked over to the 4 stalls that are located about a half-block from
the hotel and which is visible from our balcony.
I had 3 tacos el pastor with some volcanic salsa and a
Fanta naranja (orange). It took me back to my Guadalajara days as I was sitting
with about a dozen people, all Mexicans of many different ages and sizes. And
it was good.
Patti came back to the room alone as Jeanette was meeting
2 old school chums for a drink on the Malecon. I never heard when she got in
but I didn’t worry because I knew Patti wouldn’t sleep soundly and would do the worrying until Jeanette was safely
back into our room.
